How to Eat to Live

That's the title of an interesting book on eating right and living right.

I haven't fully read the whole book but I am sure it's pretty worth reading.

My Newest Blog

I have a new baby.

I hope I could sustain it, daily. It was more of a reflection blog. Or something like a devotional.

The thoughts and contents are written by Bob Gass of TheVine - spread the word. I had a subscription on the TheVine devotionals, so I will be sharing them with you on the blog.

Ang Dyutay nga Sagbot is the name of my newest blog, taken from a Cebuano song that speaks God's enormous care and love to each of us. We are far less comparable to a weed or grass but God took much care for them, how much more for us? Had this ever land in your thought?

I have been reading some of my ka-friendsters' bulletin entries which are answers to posted questions which somehow could sometimes crack a smile on my face.

So it came to my thought why can't I try one for myself. So here's just a tease...

I don't eat pizza, free pizza maybe. And it should come from Greenwich.

Crossroads

Once in a little while, we are presented with life's crossroads. Some are just too little to cause a stirring in your life, while some are big enough to turn things around.

I've been there. And I know, I am going to meet much bigger tides.

But for every road you meet, just take time to reflect on this: Life is not a chance but a choice. And life is what you made it.

Though at times, as one poem states, we choose the less-traveled road - one that is opposing conventions, to good to be true, and sometimes impossible. But sometimes, if not most of the times, this road is a difference maker which could either bring us up or break us down.

Here are some of the crossroads that I had encountered (along with the choice I made):

1. Late on my high school years, I was torn with the decision of going with my family to live in Iligan City and continue my studies there or to finish my high school (in Zamboanga City) and live by my own, for about a year. What made the decision harder was the fact that I was doing good at school then that it meant a lot when I will go to college - I was pursuing something that could get me a scholarship, which I thought would be all gone whenever I will transfer to another school. Or so I thought also that whatever I had painstakingly achieved for 3 years, would all melt down for 3 days. I love my family. But it was just something that I thought would help us more if I stay behind. College is expensive. And that was my oppurtunity to start carving a milder path. I chose to stay behind. And I did get the scholarship, I am now with my family and I lost nothing in return.

2. Journalism or Engineering? When I was a child, I love to become an artist, a painter or a cartoonist. When I grew up, I wanted to become a Civil Engineer like my cousin. When I entered high school, my love to computers exponentially grew that I promised myself to be a master of it and could even pursue a computer course in college. But later in high school, I was so much involved in campus journalism that I even have to represent the school in press conferences wherever it would be held in the country. Unknowingly my interest just slided over to that side that at the end of high school I wanted to pursue it. Sadly, Journalism was not offered to any colleges/universities in Iligan, add to that the scholarship I gained which does not include it in the allowable courses a grantee can enroll to. The closest I could get my dreams to push through was in engineering, not civil engineering but computer engineering. Now I live what I had dreamt upon entering high school. And I am much happy.

3. Does a place matters? I asked. I had the option to work in Manila, Cebu or just stay in Iligan after college. Offers and oppurtunities had just come left and right. But what added more weight to my decision was my family and the thought of changing what I am used to - schedule, lifestyle, etc... Manila and Cebu offers greater oppurtunities and personal growth, but Iligan offered what the other two has not - a growing relationship with my family. So I opted to stay here in Iligan and become a future builder (*wink).

4. Industry life or University life. Now at this point, I had come to the first checkpoint of my promise to serve the school where I graduated from. I said that I would be serving MSU-IIT for about 2-3 years. It's now my second year. Will I finish off the 3 years or am I good to go now? I was puzzled. I am loving the acadamic life, teaching students, making a difference in their lives. It is just rewarding, more than anyone can think of if ever you had become an University instructor yourself. But I had one of a chance to become part of a dynamic and growing team outside the university, I used to call this life the Industry life - where the work is sometimes routinary (maybe), 8-5 or 9-6 work clock and you are always on call. Their is a greater discrepancy on what these two offers in whatever means you want to see it. And that makes it harder to percieve which one is of best fit to you. Now, I just leave this choice for a month or two, though right now, I'm clinging on the the industry life. Let's see what lies ahead.

It's been quite awhile...

Here I am at last!

For so many months, I haven't stepped on this blog and haven't changed any items then. For so many reasons (and oh, everyone has reasons, right?) I just had forgotten or shall I say, denied myself into writing for this blog again.

But somehow I realized, its nice to channel your thoughts through the written word. And when time had passed, it is quite rewarding to read them and reminisce these thoughts all over again.

For over 3 months now, I've been a witness to many events in life, good and bad, happy and sad, highs and lows, momentous and forgetable - all extremes but they opened more realities in life right through my very eyes. Its quite humbling to pass this way in life, even once.

It's been a while now... that life becomes a drama and the drama becomes the life. And that makes beautiful. It truly is.

Controlling the emotions

Reading one of the bulletin entry in my Friendster, my interest was caught for a while on the subject it spoke of - "Controlling the emotions". The write-up drew from me mixed reactions and I want to share them with you.

Here is the first paragraph:

This would give you guides on how to
control your emotions towards your
better-half, friends, officemates and
all the people around you, especially
your "boss " . The rules of
practicing " ugaling langit, ugaling
kaaya-aya " :

Stephen: Hmmm... sounds heavenly. But in fact it really is. The intent is good right from the opening tip. Let us continue...

#1 Ang naunang magalit ang may
karapatang magalit. Pag naunahan ka na
ng galit niya, tumahimik ka na lang
muna.

Stephen: Under this statement lies a good point which can be stated in other form: a fire can't be put off with a fire... better not to dislodge your own rage.

#2 Walang taong nag-aaway mag-isa. Pag
hindi kayo sumagot o pumatol, titigil
din daw ang taong nakikipag- away sa
inyo.

Stephen: Have you tried fighting yourself alone - poking your self, throwing a stone on your head or biting your lips? Well, I could say, you can relate with this statement. There is no fight unless there are two persons involve, I should say.

# 3 Ang taong galit, 'bingi.' If
someone is angry, wala raw
pinakikinggan , so, don't try to
explain and fight back. Hindi ka niya
iintindihin dahil wala siyang
naririnig kundi ang sarili nya.

Stephen: Well said! I can't recall hearing other people's opinions when I'm angry.

#4 Ang taong galit, 'abnoy.' Ayon sa
pastor, Biblical daw ito? because the
Lord said when He was
crucified, "Father, patawarin mo sila
dahil hindi nila alam ang kanilang
ginagawa ." Modern term for these kinds
of people are abnoys, so you better
not get angry para huwag kang matawag
na abnoy.

Stephen: Who said this? Maybe I should start finding a better term for 'abnoy, or even an appropriate Bible passage. Anyway, these lines can do - though slightly.

You should also know and realize that
the persons who make your day bad are
jewels, because you need them for you
to mature. Hangga't andyan daw sila at
kinaiinisan mo, ibig sabihin, immature
ka pa. God will not take away those
people; it's for you to take away your
bad feelings towards them. You'll know
na mature ka na pag dumating 'yung
time na hindi ka na naiinis sa mga
taong ito because you have learned to
accept them and to have patience with
them.

Stephen: This one I like. The power of positivity. You can't take really something away from others as easily as you can take from yourself. You can't push them to change for you that easy but a positive change in you would bring them to their senses somehow. Maturity settles to the individuals who has the minds that understand and hearts that listens, but not to hard-headed, hateful persons.

#5 Finally, the best part of this is
to tell yourself na, because of this
person, "I will grow mature," and that
DAHIL SA CONTRIBUTION NIYA SA MATURITY
MO, KUKUNIN DIN SYA NI LORD.

Stephen: Nice punch on the throat! (Only to those causing the trouble) The statement is as clear as glass and reminds us of karma. No explaination needed, only prayers.
